ABOUT ME
Becki Scott is a lecturer in forensic science at Teesside University, specialising in the provenancing of archaeo-forensic materials. She also has interests in Heritage Crime, and Fakes and Forgeries analyses.

Background
She has a BA in Archaeology (2002) and MA in Cultural Landscape Management (2005) from the University of Wales, Lampeter, MSc in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology (2008) and PhD in Archaeological and Forensic Glass Analysis (2011) from Cranfield University, UK. Becki was a post-doctoral researcher at Leuven University (KU Leuven), Belgium, where she worked on the ERC ARCHGLASS project analysing the effects of recycling on Roman glass compositions. During this time, she developed an interest and expertise in the use of portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (pXRF) for the non-destructive analysis of archaeo-materials. While working for KU Leuven, Becki began collaborating with the HERA Carib Connections project. She began to develop a method for analysing the composition of indigenous ceramic objects from the Lesser Antilles using pXRF. Becki's work enabled the provenancing of ceramic objects in the field, whilst working on Grenada. She then joined the NWO Island Networks project to continue developing this methodology, and to expand the work to cover other islands in the Lesser Antilles. She developed a baseline to allow the comparative pXRF study of ceramics from across the Caribbean. Becki also worked on a number of small projects for museums, archaeological units, and heritage institutions using pXRF to analyse the chemical composition and provenance of various archaeo-materials.
Other Interests
Becki was the secretary of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Belgium Section. As such she was involved in various chemistry-based outreach projects. These included organising guest lectures, assisting with school workshops and judging competitions. Becki is also a member of No Man's Land (NML) the society for Great War Archaeologists. She regularly excavates with the team in Belgium and assists with geophysical surveys. Becki was also a winner of the 'I'm a Scientist, get me out of here' online science communication competition.
