Sorry for the delay...
So, I promised you a guest blog yesterday. After a short delay, due to our attending of a moonlight dance party, here is the blog post...
Rockim, one of our Grenadian students, has just finished his time with us, and I thought it would be nice if he shared his thoughts about his experiences.
Hello, my name is Rockim St. Bernard and I am an Undergraduate Information Technology student at the St. George’s University of Grenada. And I will be a guest blogger on Dr. Bex' Blog. I am going to begin for the very beginning of this adventure that is the archeology dig. The dig was held in a place called La Poterie. La Poterie is a small village which is a thirty-minute drive from the town of St. Grenville. This year will make it the second time that I would of been doing this. The first year I did the archeological dig it was very new to me because I knew nothing about archeology except what I saw on the television like the guy from the Mummy, Lara Croft Tomb Raider, and the adventures of Jacky Chan. But I eventually learned what archeology was about and what the people from Leiden University was going to be doing. Some of the things that the students allowed me to do was; mapping, digging and cleaning of ceramics. I also got to meet new people which forced me out of my antisocial bubble. But being in La Poterie wasn’t all work and no play, there would be days that everyone in the house would go to parties or just go out or other times, go to the beach. What may be a surprise to some people is, the second time I did the dig, I did different things to what I did the previous year. Being an IT student never helped me in any way, archeology was the furthest thing from my chosen field so I was constantly looking for something to do that was IT related, even though that was the case there were still things that I found interesting, like the process that the Leiden students used to find ceramics and post holes. It’s a long process but it produced very interesting results even for someone like me. The most interesting thing to me the process by they used to map out post holes digitally. This was an exciting and new experience for me and I hope that the student of leiden keep doing a good job.
